Our Commitment to Sustainability

Our focus as SDG champion

We aim to further develop all Sustainable Development Goals. But for these 7 SDG's we go above and beyond. They are an important factor in every decision we make and are embedded in our company mission.

As a result of our efforts in these domains our company, Chocdecor, was certified by the United Nations as an SDG Champion.

Factory of the Future

We are very proud to announce that Chocdecor has officially been recognized as a “Factory of the Future” for the next three years (2026–2028).

We focus on 4 pillars

Sustainable Sourcing

At ChocDecor, sustainability is woven into every sourcing decision we make. We are committed to knowing where our cocoa comes from and to making a real difference for the people who grow it — through direct farmer support, community investments and certified sourcing across our product range. In 2025, 63% of our total chocolate volume was sustainably sourced, and we continue to build on that progress every year.

Our path to fair chocolate

Route de Cacao is the direct connection between ChocDecor and the cocoa farmers in the village of Tigorikro, Ivory Coast. Through this programme, we invest directly in sustainable cocoa cultivation, fair remuneration and the development of the local community. We work together with 179 cocoa farmers and their families, who receive professional training throughout the year to improve their yield and quality.

From farmer to chocolate

After the harvest, farmers deliver their fresh cocoa beans to the local post-harvest centre, where they undergo strict quality controls. The beans are fermented and dried under controlled conditions, ensuring a consistent and outstanding chocolate flavour. Farmers who meet the quality standards receive a quality premium on top of the market price. Our investments and premiums reach the farmers and their families directly, at the very start of our value chain.

Fair income

Thanks to ChocDecor's quality premiums, farmers in Tigorikro now Earned above the Living Income Reference Price (LIRP), untill march 26. Just 24 months ago, they were still 20% below that threshold. Every participating farmer delivered beans to the post-harvest centre and received a premium per kilogram of dried cocoa beans. Tangible proof that our approach works. Our ongoing efforts to ensure a decent living for farmers remain unchanged.

Investing in the community

Beyond fair remuneration, ChocDecor also invests in the broader development of Tigorikro. Between 2022 and 2025, more than €136.000 has been invested in the community through a combination of direct funding and the Chocolate Bonus mechanism. This investment has resulted in a solar-powered water system, a communal workshop with mills supporting the economic independence of women, and the distribution of 253 bicycles to cocoa farmers.

Education is also a key priority. Three teacher residences enable rural education, three classrooms have been fully equipped, and teachers received laptops along with the necessary training. Between 2022 and 2025, more than 580 school kits have been distributed. The primary school in the village of Tigorikro is growing steadily: from 79 pupils in the 2024–2025 school year to 101 pupils in 2025–2026, almost half of whom are girls.

Sustainable Packaging

We are actively committed to developing environmentally friendly packaging solutions. Our goal is to reduce packaging and make it fully recyclable. This has already resulted in the following sustainable innovations:

Biodegradable paper lollipop sticks
Made from sustainable paper instead of plastic

100% mono-materialTransparant bag and ingredient label made from 100% recyclable material

All cardboard trays and displays are FSC-certifiedAll cardboard used is from responsibly managed forests

Next steps

We are actively working towards more circular packaging, while being transparent about where things get more complex.

Primary packaging (in direct contact with food) currently still uses virgin material. Recycled alternatives carry migration risks that we do not consider responsible without thorough validation. Our focus here is on material reduction, such as the phasing out of the clip.

Sustainable production

Since 2023, we have been committed to science-based climate targets through the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). In concrete terms, this means that we are committed to reducing Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 42% by 2030 compared to the 2020 baseline year, and to measuring and reducing Scope 3 emissions.

Our climate impact is largely determined by what happens before and after our production. Purchased goods and services account for 96% of our Scope 3 emissions, followed by the handling of packaging at the end of its life cycle and downstream transport. Our own operations – refrigerant leaks, company vehicles, commuting and business travel – account for a mere 0.007% in total, illustrating where our real climate challenge lies: in the emissions we do not directly control but can influence through our choices in procurement, packaging and transport.Translated with DeepL.com (free version)

We have emission reduction plan that we are implementing and that we monitor, review and update periodically. Until we reach zero greenhouse gas emissions, remaining emissions are compensated through investment in several Gold standard projects: renewable energy projects, afforestation and reforestation projects, effficient cookstoves in Africa.

After third-party audit, we are certified against the Climate Activator Certification Standard of Anthesis B.V. for greenhouse gas emissions of scope 1, scope 2 and specific aspects of scope 3, being business travel and employee commuting. We are therefore proudly using the Climate Activator trademark.
