SDG Champion

Our contribution as SDG champion

ChocDecor supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Our sustainability strategy aligns with the SDGs and their specific underlying targets.

Through our Route de Cacao programme and sustainable sourcing strategy, we contribute to five priority development goals within the cocoa supply chain.

1. No poverty

End poverty in all its forms everywhere

  • Fair income for cocoa farmers (1.2): Since 2023, we have been increasing the income of cocoa farmers in Tigorikro, Ivory Coast, by, among other things, paying structural quality premiums on top of the market price.

  • Equal access to economic resources (1.4): Since 2024, we have been investing in the economic independence of women in Tigorikro, Ivory Coast, through the Femmes Battantes cooperative.

2. Zero hunger

End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture

  • Income and productivity of small-scale food producers (2.3): Since 2023, we have been increasing the income of cocoa farmers in Tigorikro, Côte d’Ivoire, through quality premiums and training. We support female food producers by providing communal mills for rice and maize.

  • Sustainable and climate-resilient food production (2.4): Since 2023, we have been supporting cocoa farmers in Tigorikro, Ivory Coast, in implementing sustainable agricultural practices, thereby increasing the productivity of their cocoa plantations.

3. Good health and well-being

Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages

  • Promoting mental and physical wellbeing (3.4): Since 2020, we have been offering a wellbeing ecosystem for our employees, featuring weekly Sport@Work sessions, fresh fruit every day, monthly sessions with a psychologist, and an emotion dashboard for real-time wellbeing monitoring. In 2024, we implemented a formal sustainable mobility policy featuring company bicycles, a maximum bicycle allowance and charging infrastructure for bicycle batteries.

  • Ensuring universal healthcare (3.8): We offer hospitalisation insurance to all permanent staff, in addition to the Belgian social security scheme and employer contributions.

4. Quality education

Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all

  • Increasing access to education (4.1): We have been supporting the primary school in Tigorikro, Ivory Coast, since 2024 through concrete investments: three teachers’ homes to facilitate rural education, the fitting out of three classrooms, the annual distribution of school kits (over 580 since 2022) and laptops for teachers.

  • Equal access to vocational training (4.3): Since 2020, we have been offering Dutch language lessons for non-native speakers, during working hours and on-site, to ensure equal access to technical and vocational training and to improve safety compliance.

  • Relevant skills for work and entrepreneurship (4.4): We have been offering training courses in five categories (health and safety, quality and food safety, technical and role-specific, Lean and efficiency, soft skills) for our staff.

  • Access to education for vulnerable groups (4.5): In 2025 and 2026, we organised workshops for vulnerable young people in collaboration with Tajo vzw.

  • Skills for sustainable development (4.7): Since 2023, we have been providing cocoa farmers in Tigorikro, Ivory Coast, with year-round training in legal responsibilities, quality and traceability, and economic responsibility.

6. Clean water and sanitation

Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all

  • Universal access to drinking water (6.1): In 2023, we established a solar-powered water system that provides clean drinking water to the 700+ residents of Tigorikro, Ivory Coast.

7. Affordable and clean energy

Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all

  • Expanding renewable energy (7.2): Since 2023, we have been using 100% green electricity from the grid, supplemented by solar energy from our own installation in Lokeren, Belgium.

  • Improving energy efficiency (7.3): Since 2024, we have been investing in operational optimisations that deliver immediate energy savings: LED lighting, more efficient cooling systems, compressors with storage capacity, and AI-powered quality cameras.

8. Decent work and economic growth

Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all

  • Eliminating child labour (8.7): In December 2025, we launched a 12-month CLMRS (Child Labour Monitoring & Remediation System) project with the Scanfi-Scoops cooperative in Côte d’Ivoire to monitor and tackle child labour, providing support for 100 vulnerable children and building the capacity of local vigilance committees. We adhere to Fairtrade and Rainforest Alliance certification requirements that include anti-child labour mechanisms.

  • Employment rights and a safe working environment (8.8): We operate a ‘go for zero’ accident target, supported by a robust H&S management system (SMETA-validated), an in-house prevention advisor, a formal policy on psychosocial risks, and a confidential complaints mechanism for our employees. We guarantee equal pay for equal work through 100% coverage under Collective Labour Agreement 25, offer 100% permanent contracts, and ensure equal benefits for all permanent employees.

12. Responsible consumption and production

Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns

  • Sustainable management of natural resources (12.2): Since 2023, we have been using rainwater for the vast majority of our water consumption and have invested in water-saving steam cleaning equipment.

  • Sustainable management of natural resources (12.2): Since 2019, we have been using 100% FSC-certified cardboard for our trays and displays, and have since systematically replaced plastic packaging components with renewable cardboard alternatives.

  • Waste prevention through material reduction (12.5): Between 2020 and 2024, we designed more compact trays and displays that use 30% less cardboard. Since 2024, we have been phasing out the plastic-metal clip by integrating the closure function into the lolly bag itself. For transport packaging, we use a pool pallet system.

  • Sustainable practices and reporting (12.6): In 2023–2024, we carried out a full life-cycle assessment (LCA) of primary and secondary packaging.

13. Climate action

Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts

  • Climate-resilient agriculture (13.1): Since 2023, we have been enhancing the climate resilience of cocoa plantations in the Tigorikro area of Côte d’Ivoire by distributing young shade trees to farmers.

  • Integrating sustainable sourcing (13.2): Our Belfine and Lucky Pops lollipops are double-certified (Fairtrade Cocoa + Cacao Trace), and thanks to our Fairtrade and Rainforest Alliance certification, we can also offer products with these sustainability certifications to private label customers.

  • Integrating climate measures (13.2): Since 2023, we have been committed to science-based climate targets through the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and are certified to the Climate Activator standard. Since 2023, we have been reducing our climate impact by phasing out gas consumption, switching to 100% green electricity, electrifying our vehicle fleet and implementing a sustainable mobility policy.

16. Partnerships for the goals

Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development

  • Access to justice and complaints mechanisms (16.3): We provide confidential reporting channels for our employees and a contact form on our website for external stakeholders. In December 2025, we established a direct feedback loop for cocoa-growing communities via French-speaking local agents and vigilance committees as part of the CLMRS project with Scanfi-Scoops in Côte d’Ivoire.

  • Transparent and responsible governance (16.6): Since 2024, we have been conducting a systematic risk analysis of suppliers using a three-part methodology (product risk, country risk, supplier policy). Since 2024, we have been reporting transparently via EcoVadis (score 67/100 in 2025).
